What I’m doing now
Updated: July 30, 2024
Back at CrowdStrike after 2 months paternity leave. Being full-time nanny was insane. Respect for full-time parents!
Work has been quite chaotic and heavy. Yes, CrowdStrike caused a massive IT outage that effected the entire world. It’s strange to be part of that story. Not that I personally had anything to do with the cause. But we have published our Post Incident Review (PIR) that tells the story of what happened. I’ve been massively impressed by my leadership and the companies posture given the size of the consequences. We’ve owned up to the fact that we can do better, and we’ve swarmed all customers with support to ensure they get back up and operational as fast as humanely possible.
I do believe that CrowdStrike will survive and dominate the security market, regardless of this incident. It may take some time, but patience is a virtue. Some of the initiatives I’m working on will change everything :)
Outside of work, I’ve been working out every day, which is new for me. Outside of the frequency being new (I worked out a few times a week previously) the other new aspect of these workouts is that they are all strength training instead of cardio. I should balance both but I have been exploring this unknown territory. I’m using an app called FitBod that does a great job of telling me what to do and tracking what I have done so that I don’t over exert any muscle groups.
Its been about 4 weeks now, and I see some results. I hope to keep with it.
Finally, on politics. I’m feeling a bit more optimistic about November, but its a scary and uncertain time in the US of A. Unfortunately being born in, raised nearby, returning to live in for 16 years, and moving just outside of Washington D.C. means that politics invade many conversations I am part of. Whether its my group text messages or the primary subject of family members…political drama is getting old for me.
So now, I tune it out as much as possible and focus on my beautiful daughter (and wife). That’s all for now.
